THE
MOST REVEREND
JAMES F. CHECCHIO
Bishop of the
Diocese of Metuchen NJ
The
Most Reverend James F. Checchio was ordained and installed as the fifth bishop
of the Diocese of Metuchen, New Jersey on May 3, 2016.
Over
the first few months, Bishop James went around to all the deaneries and several
churches in the diocese in order to meet parishioners and celebrate Mass with
them.
On
June 9, 2016, he
came to Immaculate Conception Parish in Somerville. Before Mass began, he walked
up and down the aisles and greeted every single person individually, and again a
second time at a social gathering after Mass. I had the honor of meeting
Bishop James. We are very blessed to have such a cordial, warm and devoted
servant of God to lead our diocese.
Bishop
James has chosen a passage from the writings of Saint Paul as his motto and
episcopal ministry, 2 Corinthians 5:20:
"Be
reconciled to God" will be my motto and guide my episcopal ministry amongst
you. This motto is inspired by the writings of St. Paul, who urges us always to
be reconciled to God, and then to become ambassadors for Him in reconciling
others to God our Father. The whole reason God sent His Son to us was to lead us
back to the Father; and this reconciling is the one true route to grace-filled
and peaceful hearts and lives, resting in God now and hopefully forever in
heaven.
